In the peaceful heart of Nad Al Sheba, Dubai, Gerbou has emerged not just as a restaurant, but as a hospitality retreat - a space where culture, cuisine, and contemplative design invite guests to slow down, connect, and savor a sense of place. Gerbou - meaning “welcome to my humble abode” in the local Emirati dialect - embodies the warmth and generosity of Arabian hospitality in every detail, from its architecture and interiors to its farm-to-table culinary experience.
An Invitation to Hospitality
Gerbou was brought to life through the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum, who imagined a restaurant that serves as an open embrace - a place where design, tradition, and community converge. The ethos of Gerbou reflects the deep hospitality woven into Emirati culture: welcoming visitors as if they were family and offering space to share stories, meals, and moments that linger.
Set within a lovingly restored building dating back to 1987, Gerbou’s physical form celebrates both past and present. The structure’s original architectural language has been preserved, while its new interiors, shaped by Kristina Zanic Consultants in collaboration with Tashkeel, draw inspiration from local crafts, indigenous flora, and traditional Emirati forms. Every material and gesture is chosen to evoke a sense of calm belonging.

Natural materials - wood, stone, and textured plaster - ground the dining spaces in local craft and quiet luxury
Spaces That Feel Like Home
Walking into Gerbou is akin to entering a thoughtfully curated home that honors heritage while welcoming contemporary sensibilities. A striking double-height foyer greets guests with soft natural light, arches reminiscent of desert skies, and a reception desk carved from a naturally fallen ghaf tree - a symbol of resilience and hospitality.

Bespoke furniture and handcrafted details reflect a dialogue between tradition and contemporary design
Across nearly 200 seats, indoor and outdoor dining areas are unified by warm neutral tones, tactile materials like camel leather and handcrafted wood, and fluid architectural forms that echo the dunes and the sea. Sculpted details - from fish-scale lighting fixtures to bespoke plateware - nod to the UAE’s natural environment and artisanal traditions, while indoor - outdoor transitions blur boundaries between shelter and landscape.

Design That Connects and Calms
Gerbou’s interiors are designed not to impress, but to invite. Soft lighting, fluid curves, and locally inspired patterns create a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. The furniture and fixtures, many crafted locally through Tashkeel’s design community, reflect a creative dialogue between past and present, craftsmanship and innovation. Outdoor dining is shaded by ghaf trees, offering a tranquil setting where meals feel deeply tied to the land itself.
This careful balance of heritage and contemporary design was recognized on the global stage when Gerbou was included in the World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants list 2025, underscoring how spaces shaped by culture and hospitality can resonate far beyond their walls.

Culinary Hospitality and Shared Moments
At its heart, Gerbou is a place to gather. The culinary experience reflects its hospitality mission: rooted in tradition yet inventive in execution. With a menu crafted by Chef Ionel Catau and influences from Emirati chef Sahar Al Awadhi, dishes draw from local and seasonal ingredients, celebrating tastes that connect diners with the region’s culinary lineage.
Guests are encouraged to share meals in a spirit of community, from mezze to signature mains, and to enjoy moments that echo the rhythms of Emirati life: leisurely conversations, hands-on culinary techniques, and a deep appreciation for local flavor and craft.

An Oasis of Warmth and Belonging
Gerbou isn’t just a destination, it’s an invitation to linger. Whether you’re stepping in from the Dubai heat to the shaded calm of its patios, or gathering under the soft glow of interiors that feel both familiar and extraordinary, this is hospitality expressed through space, flavor, and feeling.
In a city of constant motion, Gerbou offers a rare pause: a retreat that welcomes you like an old friend, feeds you with care, and leaves you connected to the stories of place and people.
